At Butterfield Clinic, our GPs are able to request over 1,500 different blood tests.
A blood test is a laboratory analysed test that help you and your clinicians assess and keep track of your health. A blood test can help:
- Check your general health
- Find out if your symptoms are being triggered by certain conditions
- Check if you are more likely to get a certain condition in the future
- Help understand how an existing condition is being monitored
How can I get a blood test?
To complete a blood test, you’ll need to draw a blood sample. This can either be completed by a clinician at one of our Butterfield Clinic practices, or in certain scenarios we can send you a home blood testing kit, and you can draw your own blood (usually via fingerprick). We are able to offer in-person blood testing, either within:
- A standard GP consultation
- A blood testing consultation
If you require a GP to advise you on the appropriate test, then you will need to book a standard GP consultation. If you already know the test you require, then you can attend the clinic for a blood testing consultation. Please note that within a blood testing consultation, our clinicians will not have time to provide clinical advice – it is solely an appointment to draw blood and order your test.
Please be aware that the cost of the blood tests will be charged in addition to the consultation fee.
How will I get my results?
Once your test has been completed and paid for, it is sent to the laboratory for analysis. Result timelines will vary depending on the test/s you require. Once the results have been reported to us by the laboratory, we’ll share them on with you via SMS. The SMS will contain a link to view your results, and a summary of the outcome from our GP. If you have further questions following this, please book a follow-up appointment.

If your blood test results come back abnormal, we recommend that you book a follow-up consultation with one of our GPs to discuss what your results could mean.
Does using Butterfield Clinic affect my NHS GP?
Why should I use Butterfield Clinic for blood testing?
At Butterfield Clinic, we provide a GP-led blood testing service. This means that our GPs are able to advise on the appropriate test for your needs, and they will also draw your blood themselves.
Our practices and GPs help us to us to provide:

At your blood test appointment, you should allow up to 10 minutes for the GP to draw your blood and complete the laboratory paper work. The GP will take a small amount of blood, usually from the inside of your elbow using a needle. A soft strap (tourniquet) may be put around your arm first, as this makes drawing blood easier. Your blood will be collected in a small tube which is then sent to the laboratory for testing.
You may get some small swelling or bruising from the blood test, but this will go away in a few days. Your results will be reported to your by SMS by the GP.
